My recording appears blurry on Google Drive or YouTube
Videos often appear blurry on Google Drive or YouTube immediately after they are uploaded. This is because both Drive and YouTube display a low-resolution version of your video while they're still processing the HD version in the background.
This process could take up to 30 minutes depending on the length and size of your recording. But your video will ultimately appear in HD once it's ready.
If after 30 minutes the video quality is still poor, then Drive or YouTube may have encoded your video at a slightly different resolution than the one it was originally recorded at. Usually this isn't an issue, but occasionally this rescaling can have an impact on the readability of small text or other details.
If you are recording a browser tab with Screencastify, there are two ways to mitigate this issue:
- Record at a standard resolution
- Zoom in on your browser tab
Recording at a standard resolution
When you make a recording in Screencastify, by default it records at whatever size/resolution your current browser tab is.
To resize your browser tab to a more standard resolution that Drive and YouTube natively supports (e.g. 720p or 480p), follow these steps:
- Open up the extension's Recording Control Panel
- Select "TAB" recording option
- Click theicon to open up the advanced video options
- Change your tab size to one of the standard aspect ratios. All of the aspect ratio options are natively supported by Google Drive / YouTube. Your browser window will automatically resize to those new dimensions.
- Click on the Control Panel or press 'esc' to return to the Control Panel and begin your recording
Zoom in on your browser tab
If you zoom in on your Chrome tab before recording, any text in your tab will appear larger and sharper when viewed on Google Drive / YouTube.
To zoom in / out on your tab, press CTRL +/- (or ⌘+/- on a Mac).
