Centrally configure Screencastify for all G Suite users

If you're an administrator for your G Suite domain, you can centrally configure Screencastify for all of your users from the Google Admin Console.

Install Screencastify on all users' devices

  1. Go to your Google Admin Console
  2. Click "Device management"
  3. Under Device Settings in the left sidebar, click "Chrome management"
  4. Scroll down and click "App Management"
  5. Search for "Screencastify" under Find or Update Apps
  6. Click "Screencastify - Screen Video Recorder"
  7. Click "User settings"
  8. Click on your domain name under Orgs
  9. Click the toggle button under Force Installation

Customize Screencastify's settings with configurations

There are a handful of settings in Screencastify that you can enable, disable or customize centrally. 

Follow the steps above to access the  Screencastify App Management page in your Google Admin Console. From this page, you can upload your custom configurations in a .json file.

Below are some examples of the settings you can configure, along with the configuration code.

Automatically store all recordings on user's Google Drive

If this is enabled, Screencastify will automatically sync with a user's Google upon installation. Your users won't have the option to store their recordings on their local devices.

Remove automatic pause on low disk space

This is recommended only for organizations with many shared Chromebooks that often have low disk space.

Block upload to YouTube

If this is enabled, users won't be able to publish their recordings directly to YouTube from within Screencastify.
